This collection of yarns has been put together by the Weka Writers over four years, but many of the stories go back a long way. It all began because writer Joy Cowley, who lives in Kenepuru Sound herself, agreed to give a writer's workshop for local people. They enjoyed it so much that they have continued meeting regularly- "meeting, laughing and remembering" - as they wrote these yarns and short-shorts from their own lives or those of family, friends or neighbours. Most are funny. All contribute to a remarkable picture of Sounds life, from glimpses of natural history and childhood adventures to adult pranks, ghosts and the kind of mishap that maybe could happen only in such a remote region.
