A Life Less Ordinary - Max Pudney

NZ$19.00

"Max Pudney was born in Bournemouth, Southern England, where he spent his first forty years. Near the end of World War II he was called up for National Service, but instead of going into the Services, as he expected, he was forced to work in the coal mines, which he describes as "three years and two months of purgatory." On his release he took up photography, combined that with aviation, and worked for BOAC for seven years. He learnt to fly, gained his private pilot's licence, and survived an aircraft crash while filming night approaches to London Airport. He then worked for a film company producing sponsored documentaries and covering news items for the BBC. An unsuccessful business attempt followed, and time as a senior photographer for the Ministry of Defence, Navy department. Then, in December 1967, Max and his wife and their three children left England on the Orcades, bound for New Zealand. Max took up a position as cameraman with the recently formed New Zealand television Corporation. He spent the next 25 years enjoying interesting and varied work with travel in New Zealand and overseas. He worked on assignments for early programmes such as Town and Around and Tonight at Nine, and was involved with filming the Golden Shears. He met HRH Prince Philip, the King and Queen of Sweden, and travelled with Sir Arthur Porritt on his farewell tour of the Pacific Island. In 1976 Max made a film about the London Observer trans-Atlantic single-handed yacht race highlighting the New Zealand entrant John Mansell ... After deciding on early retirement, Max took up writing for magazines, newspapers, and Radio New Zealand International"--Back cover.
