On the night of 10 February 1964, the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) aircraft carrier HMAS Melbournecollided with the Daring-class destroyer HMAS Voyager during night-flying exercises off Jervis Bay.
The Toll: The collision sliced the destroyer in two, resulting in 82 fatalities out of the 314 personnel on board, making it Australia's worst peacetime naval disaster.
