A classic natural history book by renowned French entomologist Jean-Henri Fabre, detailing the architecture, hunting strategies, and life cycles of solitary wasps
Jean-Henri Fabre (1823–1915), often called the “Homer of Insects,” was a pioneering naturalist whose detailed observations of insect behaviour helped lay the foundations of modern entomology. Although he had no formal scientific training and worked largely as an amateur, Fabre’s remarkable patience and close observation—often conducted in his own backyard—revealed fascinating aspects of the insect world. His ten-volume Souvenirs Entomologiques combined scientific observation with engaging, humanistic writing. Recognition came late in his life, but by the time the final volume appeared he was celebrated by scientific societies, awarded a government pension, and visited by the President of France.
