Leslie “Bav” Baveystock recounts his remarkable wartime service with the RAF, from surviving a damaged Avro Manchester bomber during the first 1,000-bomber raid on Cologne to escaping occupied Europe via the Comet Line. Later serving with Coastal Command’s No. 201 Squadron, he flew long-range Atlantic patrols in Sunderland flying boats, locating and attacking German blockade-runners and sinking two U-boats in 1944, including U-995 during the D-Day operations and U-107 in August.
